Hole by Hole Descriptions
The Front 9
Hole 1 – Oak Corner – Par 5
A very exciting yet unusual opening hole. The first at Meadowbrook plays as a long and challenging par 4 from the back tees for the pro and low handicapper. But is an enjoyable par 5 opening hole from the upward tees for members and club guests. This huge green is situated into a hill so don’t miss the green left or long.
Hole 2 – Hawks view – Par 3
A scenic par 3 over a pond to a large narrow green. Players can have as much as a 3-club difference depending upon the pin placement. This par 3 plays slightly downhill to an elevated green. There is definitely a premium on accuracy here.
Hole 3 – Bluebird Trail – Par 5
A long and narrow par 5 that requires a well-placed tee shot in the fairway in order to have a shot at the green. Bunkers guard the lay-up areas 40-50 yards from the green. Take a second look; there are two bunkers on the left.
Hole 4 – Pinehurst – Par 3
The second of the six best par 3’s you will see on one course. A long par 3 guarded by a hazard on the left. Your work is not over once you hit the green. A huge undulating green puts the emphasis on your putting.
Hole 5 – The Chute – Par 4
One of two par fours at Meadowbrook that looks rather intimidating from the tee but is actually an easier driving hole than first appears. A narrow par 4 but tee shots down the left or right side will feed back to the center. Be sure you get your tee shot to the top of the hill or you will have a blind second shot to a narrow but deep undulating green. This hole has a unique feature in that it is a double green, sharing with the par 3 seventh.
Hole 6 – Road Hole – Par 4
Every golf course needs a hole like this. A short par 4 (only 325 yards from back tees) with plenty a driving area. However, a huge two-tiered green puts a premium on distance control with the wedges.
Hole 7 – The Fountain – Par 3
A long par 3 over water with a huge sand bunker guarding the front right of the green. Another of the great par 3’s at Meadowbrook Golf Club. A huge double green sharing with the par 4 5th.
Hole 8 – Ace – Par 3
Simply a great short par 3 played uphill to a huge two-tiered green. Any shot played to the right of this green will bounce to the left. Hitting your shot the proper distance and a little course knowledge certainly helps on this hole.
Hole 9 – The Ordeal- Par 5
A tee shot played down the left-center of this fairway will put you in position to play this hole well. Three huge pot bunkers guard the lay-up area so make sure you know the yardages here. Shots played to the green should be aimed at the left portion because everything slopes to the right.
The Back 9
Hole 10 – Big Easy – Par 5
A beautiful par 5 with two huge live oak trees guarding the right side of the fairway. Second and third shots to this hole are played to a huge undulating green that slopes away from front right to back left. A unique and challenging grass bunker guards the left side of this green.
Hole 11 – The Plateau – Par 3
Another great par 3 at Meadowbrook. A mid-iron shot is played to an elevated green with bunkers in the front. You simply cannot miss this green and expect to make par.
Hole 12 – Diablo – Par 4
An uphill dogleg left par 4 that demands accuracy from the tee. A nice feature to this hole is the view from the fairway to the green. What looks like a very small target is actually one of the biggest greens on the course. A variety of demanding pin placements possible on this hole.
Hole 13 – The Journey – Par 5
This par 5 can be hit in two only if the tee shot is properly placed. If not, you are faced with a very difficult lay up to a fairway situated between two lakes. A very elegant hole that demands your attention.
Hole 14 – Dead Man’s Curve – Par 4
A long uphill par 4 that doglegs slightly to the left. Two well-struck shots are required in order to hit this green in two. Yet again, your work is not complete. A huge undulating green awaits. A par 4 is a great score here.
Hole 15 – The Vista – Par 3
Considered by some to be the best par 3 in Gainesville. A short and severely downhill par 3 with an outstanding green guarded by bunkers. Truly an area favorite.
Hole 16 – The Canyon – Par 4
Called by many the “Canyon Hole”. Any tee shot hit down the left or right of this fairway will feed back to the middle. The tee shot must be struck well however or you will not have a clear shot at the green on the dogleg left par 4. Another well designed green that appears small from the fairway but is another huge putting surface.
Hole 17 – Augusta – Par 4
You will think you are in the mountains of North Carolina when you get to this hole. Gigantic pines define this hole that features a creek that runs up the left side of the fairway and crosses in front of this very large green. A must see hole when the azaleas are blooming in the spring.
Hole 18 – The Valley – Par 5
One of the longest and best finishing holes in the area. This uphill par 5 demands accurate and solid shots in order to make par or birdie. Another one of the scenic holes found at Meadowbrook Golf Club.
